ABOUT THE ARTIST
Cologne based painter Armin Scheid was trained by J.P. Kastner first at the University of Dortmund and later at the Art Academy Düsseldorf. At the beginning of the nineties he was an artistic assistant to Prof. Norbert Tadeusz.
His works focus on representational motives, such as landscapes, plants, architecture and studio situations, as well as the human figure as the centre of his paintings. His paintings appear very harmonic, but are simultaneously full of vitality and bright colours. The expressionistic and intense colours, as well as the vital rhythm of his brush marks effortlessly catch the viewers’ attention, which makes the encounter with each of Scheids paintings an individual viewing experience. This effect is also present in his series “Elementarteilchen”. These works represent almost abstract structures, as they form concreteness fragmented and blurry shapes. As a result, they leave behind an astonishing beauty on canvas full of strength and dynamic.
Scheid’s previous “Magnolia”-series strongly deals with the interdependency between humans and nature. Additionally, they interestingly play with the aspects of clarity and blurriness. Equally do Scheid’s latest works “Surfers Delight” and “Surfin the Elements” pick up on these themes by realising them in a new way. The protagonists of the paintings are moving in a cosmos of bright light, colourful shadows and reflections. With their youthful, vital and calm appearance they still remind us of the vulnerability of the human being. To us not only the controllability of the nature remains an illusion, but also a sunny idyll can be perceived as part of a radiated world at any time. This irritating impression is supported by the fragmentation of the colour plain.
