ABOUT THE ARTIST
Lilli Hill, born in Kazakhstan, takes up the themes of “human” and “life” in her paintings. From humorous self-portraits in which the artist stages herself confidently, to acrobatic performances of opulent women’s bodies and scenic representations of the ballet, the actors act in their respective assigned roles as if on a stage in the “Theater of Life” (quotation from Lilli Hill).
The artist’s title “theatricalization” reveals itself through excessive, uninhibited forms of representation that often show a lot of naked skin and sensual moments. The photorealistic style of painting conveys lifelikeness and makes it possible to experience the charisma of the depicted, who present themselves full of pride and self-assertion.
